Seamless steel pipes are produced by perforating steel ingots or solid tubes into rough shapes, followed by hot rolling, cold rolling, or cold drawing. These pipes are a type of carbon structural steel and are widely used in mold production due to their excellent properties. Seamless steel pipes feature hollow cross-sections without seams along the edges, making them ideal for transporting fluids such as oil, natural gas, coal gas, and water, as well as some solid materials.

 

Compared to solid steel products like round bars, alloy seamless steel pipes offer a lighter weight while maintaining equivalent bending and torsional strength. They serve as economical sectional steel, commonly used to manufacture structural and mechanical components, including oil transportation systems, stair handrails, bicycle racks, and construction scaffolding. Utilizing alloy seamless steel pipes for annular parts enhances material utilization, simplifies manufacturing processes, and conserves both materials and processing time—examples include dynamic bearing rings and jack sleeves, which are increasingly produced from steel pipes.

 

Seamless steel pipes are typically made from high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel and can be categorized into hot-rolled and cold-rolled (drawn) types. In contrast, welded steel pipes are formed by rolling steel plates into tubes and welding the seams, which can be either butt or spiral seams. The manufacturing methods for welded pipes include options for low-pressure fluid transportation, spiral seam electric welded pipes, direct rolled pipes, and electric welded pipes.

Seamless steel pipes are suitable for various liquid and gas pipelines, while welded pipes can be used for water, gas, and heating lines. In terms of diameter, pipes smaller than φ76 mm account for 35%, while those between φ159 mm and φ650 mm represent 25%. In terms of types, general-purpose pipes comprise 1.9 million tons (54%), oil pipes make up 760,000 tons (5.7%), hydraulic props and pipes account for 150,000 tons (4.3%), and stainless steel, bearing, and automobile pipes total 50,000 tons (1.4%).

 

Requirements for Storing Seamless Steel Pipes in Warehouses:

- Storage Conditions:

Small and medium-sized steel products, wire rods, steel bars, medium-diameter pipes, and wire ropes should be kept in well-ventilated sheds, covered with mats for protection.

 

- Sensitive Materials:

Small steel products, thin plates, steel strips, silicon steel sheets, small-diameter or thin-walled pipes, and expensive or corrosive metal items should be stored indoors.

 

- Corrosive Materials:

Steel must not be stacked alongside corrosive materials like acids, alkalis, salts, or cement. Different types of steel should be stored separately to avoid confusion and corrosion.

 

- Open-Air Storage:

Large steel sections, rails, steel plates, large-diameter pipes, and forgings can be stored outdoors.

 

- Ventilation:

The warehouse should be ventilated on sunny days and closed during rain to maintain optimal storage conditions.

 

- Geographical Considerations:

Select warehouses based on geographical conditions, typically using standard closed warehouses with roofs, walls, secure doors, and ventilation.

 

- Site Cleanliness:

The storage site or warehouse should be clean and well-drained, away from factories or mines that produce gas or dust. Clear weeds and debris to keep the steel clean.
