Steel sheet piles have been utilized globally for over a century. Due to the existence of localized steel grades in different countries, a wide variety of steel grades have been developed specifically for sheet piling. However, with the unification of European countries, the steel grades used across Europe have been streamlined. In European construction, the most commonly used steel grades for sheet piling include S235 and S275 for cold-rolled sheet piles, and S355GP, S390GP, and S430GP for hot-rolled sheet piles.

In other parts of the world, different steel grades dominate the market. In China, Q235B and Q345B are the most widely used grades for sheet piling. Similarly, in Japan, the steel grades SY295 and SY390 are most prevalent. Below is an overview of the commonly used steel grades for sheet piling in various regions.
