What Is Pup Joint?

Pup Joint Definition:

Pup joint is a casing or tubing shorter than standard length used to handle production tubing components and to space out full-length tubing and casing strings. Pup joints are also known as saver sub, spacers and pup.

Pup Joint OCTG Material Grade:

- Available in all API classes

- All Vallourec proprietary grades are available, including stainless steel and high alloys.

Pup Joint Specification:

1. Size Range

2 3/8” to 24”

2. Available Lengths

2’, 3’, 4’, 5’, 6’, 8’, 10’ & 12’

Casing range 1 (16’ to 25’)

Tubing range 1 (20” to 24”)

Standard length: 6’

Standard tolerance: +/-3” (76,20 mm).

Pipe body: Same as string

Connection: Same as string according to connection performance.

Pup Joint Pipe Standard:

The API Spec 5CT standard specifies the technical delivery conditions for casing, tubing and pup joints, coupling stock, coupling material and accessory material, and specifies three product specification levels: PSL-1, PSL-2, PSL-3 .
