Welded steel pipe is formed by rolling a sheet into a tube and then welding the seam, with tighter dimensional tolerances and lighter weight. It is suitable for conveying gas, steam, water or other liquids in medium and low pressure environments, such as water mains systems, sewage treatment systems, oil and gas pipelines, fire protection, etc.

ASTM A53 is standard specification for black and hot-dipped, zinc-coated, welded and seamless steel pipe. ASTM A135 is standard specification for electric-resistance-welded steel pipe. The following will talk about differences between them.

ASTM A53 Welded Steel Pipe:

• Specification: Black and Hot-Dipped Zinc-Coated  (Galvanized) Welded Steel Pipe

• Material: ASTM A53 Grade A / Grade B

• Dimension: ASMEB36.10

• End connection: Plain / Bevelled / NPT threaded

• Surface: Bare / Black paint / Hot-dip galvanized coating as ASTM A123

• Hydrostatic test: ASTM A53

• NDT testing: ASTM E309 Eddy current examination, ASTM E570 Flux leakage examination, ASTM E213 Ultrasonic testing
