ASTM A210 ASME SA210 covers seamless medium-carbon steel tubes for boilers and superheaters, including minimum-wall-thickness tubing, boiler flues, safe-end tubes, arch tubes and stay tubes. The standard provides tensile and hardness requirements within specific size limits. Materials must be fully killed steel and produced by a seamless process, supplied as hot-finished or cold-finished. Surface condition must be specified in the order, and chemical composition shall meet the required limits without additional unlisted elements.
Required inspections include tension, flattening, flaring, hardness, and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric tests. Superheater tubes must be defect-free and capable of withstanding expansion, beading, forging, welding and bending.

ASTM A210 Flattening Test Requirements
Each lot requires one flattening test on specimens from both tube ends, excluding the specimen used for the flaring test. For Grade C tubes up to 2.375 in. (60.3 mm) OD, tears at the 12 or 6 o’clock positions are not rejection criteria.

ASTM A210 Delivery Condition Options
Available delivery states include annealed, normalized, and normalized plus tempered. Each crate shall be marked with order number, heat number, dimensions, weight, and bundle details.
ASTM A210 Surface Treatment Options
Common surface finishes include oil-dip, varnish, passivation, phosphating and shot blasting.
