ASTM A333 is the standard specification that covers seamless and welded steel pipes designed for low-temperature service and other applications requiring notch toughness. Among the various grades, ASTM A333 Grade 6 is the most widely used for service temperatures down to -45°C.
Grade 6 features excellent mechanical properties, with a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa, making it well-suited for pressure systems and structural applications operating in cold environments.

For each 0.01% decrease in carbon content below 0.30%, an increase of 0.05% in manganese content above 1.06% is allowed, up to a maximum manganese content of 1.35%.
When Grade 6 is specified under ASTM A333, the use of any alloying elements not listed for that grade is not permitted. However, the addition of elements necessary for steel deoxidation is allowed.
