ASTM A333 covers seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipes designed for use in low-temperature environments where notch toughness is critical. These pipes are manufactured either through a seamless process or by welding without the use of filler metal. To ensure optimal performance in low-temperature conditions, all pipes undergo treatment to refine and control their microstructure.
Comprehensive testing is required to meet specification standards, including tensile testing, impact testing, hydrostatic testing, and nondestructive electric testing. Here is an overview of ASTM A333 seamless carbon steel pipe.

Testing Requirements of ASTM A333 Seamless Carbon Steel Pipes
Low-temperature carbon steel pipes are supplied in a normalized condition to enhance their toughness and ensure performance in sub-zero environments. To verify their suitability for such applications, Charpy impact tests are performed at specified temperatures. These tests confirm that the pipes meet the notch toughness criteria required by ASTM A333 for low-temperature service.

Mechanical Testing Requirements
Mechanical tests for low-temperature carbon steel pipes include:
Transverse and Longitudinal Tension Tests
Flattening Tests
Hardness Tests
Bend Tests
These tests must be conducted on 5% of the pipes from each heat-treated lot. For smaller batches, at least one pipe must be tested. If the material is heat-treated using a continuous process, testing must be carried out on a sufficient number of pipes to represent 5% of the lot, with a minimum of two pipes tested in any case.
