1. Welding Connection
Welding is a traditional and reliable method for joining galvanized pipes. Although it is more time-consuming, it provides excellent sealing performance and high joint strength, minimizing the risk of leakage after completion.
2. Grooved Clamp Connection
The grooved (or clamp) connection is a widely used and efficient method. It requires machining grooves on both pipe ends and securing them with clamps and sealing gaskets. This connection is easy to install and maintain, but it demands high precision and quality of the clamps to ensure sealing performance.
3. Flange Connection
In this method, both galvanized pipes are welded or fixed to flanges, which are then bolted together. Flange connections are often used for valves, large-diameter pipelines (DN > 100 mm), and systems that require frequent disassembly or maintenance.
Key Considerations for Galvanized Pipe Connections
- Choose the right connection method based on the design requirements and pipe size.
For example, when DN ≤ 100 mm, a grooved clamp connection is generally recommended.
- Check the tightness before assembly.
Before final tightening, hand-fit the galvanized pipes to ensure proper alignment and tightness, then secure all fittings with adequate torque.
- Conduct a hydrostatic pressure test after installation.
After all pipes are connected, perform a pressure test to check for leaks at each joint. Any leakage points should be marked, repaired, and retested until the system meets the required standards.
- Special note for welding galvanized pipes:
When welding, it is advisable to remove a small section of the zinc coating or cut off a short portion of the pipe end before welding to prevent poor joint quality and ensure a solid connection.
