ERW Pipe Definition

ERW pipe means straight seam resistance welding pipe, which is abbreviation for electric resistance welded pipe.Electric resistance welded pipes are produced by low frequency or high frequency resistance. ERW welded pipes have characteristics of high strength and durability for fluid transmission and other structural applications.

ERW Pipe Making Process

ERW(Electric Resistance Welded) pipe isfabricated by cold forming a flat steel sheet into a cylinder and the edges are fused together by passing an electric current. The two main types of ERW processes are

1. High frequency welding

The typical flow of high frequency welding: open-book – strip leveler – head and tail cut – strip butt – looper accumulator – molding – welding – clear the glitch – sizing – flaw -fly cut – Initial verification – tubestraightening – pipe processing – hydrostatic testing – flaw detection –printing and coating – finished.

2. Rotary contact wheel welding

In rotary contact wheel welding,an current is passed through the contact wheel at the welding point. This contact wheel applies some of the forging pressure required for the welding process.
