Dimensional Scope of ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Pipe
This standard covers tubes with an outside diameter (OD) ranging from 1/8 inch to 3 inches (3.2 mm to 76.2 mm).


Tubes with diameters and wall thicknesses smaller than the specified limits may also be manufactured under this standard; however, mechanical property requirements do not apply to tubes with:

OD smaller than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm)

Wall thickness less than 0.015 inch (0.4 mm)

Marking Requirements of ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Pipe
Tubes manufactured under ASTM A179 / ASME SA179 shall be marked in accordance with the requirements specified in ASTM A450. The markings must include the product identification and the order number.
