The ASTM A213 standard specifies the technical requirements for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy steel tubes used in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers. These tubes are primarily designed for high-temperature and high-pressure service conditions, commonly found in power generation, petrochemical, and industrial heat transfer systems.

Common Grades under ASTM A213
The most widely used grades produced under ASTM A213 include:
A213 T11
A213 T12
A213 T22
Each grade has specific chemical and mechanical characteristics suitable for varying levels of temperature resistance, pressure tolerance, and corrosion resistance.
Scope of Application of ASTM A213 Seamless Alloy Steel Pipes
ASTM A213 applies to two major types of alloy steel tubes:
1. Seamless Ferritic Alloy Steel Tubes
High heat resistance
Excellent mechanical strength
Ideal for high-temperature environments such as steam boilers and superheaters.
2. Austenitic Alloy Stainless Steel Tubes
Superior corrosion resistance
High tensile strength
Suitable for a wide range of industrial and chemical processing environments.
Available Size Range of ASTM A213 Seamless Alloy Steel Pipes
Nominal Pipe Size (NPS): 1/4" to 24"
Wall Thickness Schedules: SCH 40 to SCH 160, including STD, XS, and XXS
Custom heavy wall tubing: Available with wall thicknesses up to 4 inches (non-scheduled)
Equivalent Specification: ASME SA213
The ASME SA213 standard is essentially the equivalent of ASTM A213 and is often used in code-compliant boiler and pressure vessel applications. It governs the same material types and performance criteria but is tailored for use in ASME-certified systems.
